VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DATES NOW AVAILABLE FOR JANUARY–JULY 2017. 2016 FULL.
The GDS Volunteer Program is intended for the benefit of our dogs. We have established rules for their emotional and physical safety. If you wish to volunteer with our program, we require an application to be submitted and once approved, a signed agreement that our rules are understood and will be followed. The safety of our dogs is paramount. Volunteer duties include: cleaning, feeding, walking the dogs, playing with the dogs, vet runs with staff and street rescues should they arise. You will be included in any local fundraisers and media creating if time allows. Additionally, we will film parts of your journey and make a short memorial video for you to keep as long as there are no emergencies that have priority. You will have fun! It is impossible to spend time with our wonderful dogs and not have a a Hanktabulous time!
Volunteering at the Centre is hard work and dirty — time is dedicated to cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning punctuated with lots of activities with the dogs for lead walks and socializing. Volunteers must be 18+. For those with health issues, please contact us regarding your request.
Until our on-site accommodations are completed, we are offering a residence in San Cayatano, Murcia that sleeps up to six people (two on sofa bed, one room with twins, and one with a double bed) with a full kitchen, living area, bathroom, sun parlor and garden. Also included is wifi, television, clothes washer and hair dryer. NO SMOKING ALLOWED. The residence is a two minute walk from an urbanisation bar, swimming pool, paddle tennis and a five minute walk from an old Spanish village which includes several bars and cafes both English and Spanish, a Spanish panaderia (typical bakery), pharmacy and a small supermarket. It is a five minute drive from the local beach situated on the famous Mar Menor. Depending on the time of year there are beach bars with a lovely atmosphere to enjoy an evening meal. The residence is just a few minutes drive from the Centre. As much as we would love to host everyone and everything for free, sadly it’s just not possible as commensurate costs are incurred. (depending upon how many people in your group or if solo, accommodations will be shared) If you would like the chance to meet and volunteer with new people, let us know and we will coordinate your stay with others.
On occasion we have had unreported damages and the residence left dirty beyond what we consider fair. Whilst we will continue to expect the apartment to be kept clean by those using it, we will be implementing a 10e per person per visit charge to ensure the apartment is deep cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

WHY SHOULD YOU PAY TO VOLUNTEER?
Having a volunteer programme costs us time and money. Time in terms of the demands on us to oversee and supervise volunteers and the overall programme costs for utilities etc. You will be included in all the GDS activities from attending local fundraisers to creating media if time permits. Additionally, we will film parts of your journey and make a short memorial video for you to keep as long as there are no emergencies that have priority. We will do our best to ensure that our volunteers experience the full spectrum of GDS life!
