VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

OVERVIEW
The GDS Volunteer Program is intended for the benefit of our dogs. We have established rules for their emotional and physical safety. If you wish to volunteer with our program, we require an application to be submitted and once approved, a signed agreement that our rules are understood and will followed. The safety of our dogs is paramount. Volunteer duties include: cleaning, feeding, walking the dogs, playing with the dogs, vet runs with staff and street rescues should they arise. You will be included in any local fundraisers and media creating if time allows. Additionally, we will film parts of your journey and make a short memorial video for you to keep as long as there are no emergencies that have priority. You will have fun! It is impossible to spend with our wonderful dogs and not have a a Hanktabulous time!

PROGRAMME PACKAGES
We are offering two packages — The Hank for those who are able to work full days and The Granny Pants for those 65+ who prefer to work a half day. For those who wish to stay at a hotel and rent a car, volunteering will be possible during the opening hours set for local volunteers, 10–2pm. Our priority is for those that have chosen a package and want the full GDS experience. Volunteers must be 18+.

ACCOMODATIONS
Until our on-site accommodations are completed, we are offering a residence in San Cayatano, Murcia that sleeps up to six people (two on sofa bed, one room with twins, and one with a double bed) with a full kitchen, living area, bathroom, sun parlor, garden, and laundry. The residence is a two minute walk from an urbanisation bar, swimming pool, paddle tennis and a five minute walk from an old Spanish village which includes several bars and cafes both English and Spanish, a Spanish panaderia (typical bakery), pharmacy and a small supermarket. It is a five minute drive from the local beach situated on the famous Mar Menor. Depending on the time of year there are beach bars with a lovely atmosphere to enjoy an evening meal. The residence is just a few minutes drive from the Centre. As much as we would love to host everyone and everything for free, sadly it’s just not possible as commensurate costs are incurred. (depending upon how many people in your group or if solo, accommodations will be shared) If you would like the chance to meet and volunteer with new people, let us know and we will coordinate your stay with others.

WHY SHOULD YOU PAY TO VOLUNTEER?
Having a volunteer programme costs us time and money. Time in terms of travel for pickups and drop-offs, time giving instructions at the Centre and at the residence and costs incurred for running the overall programme for utilities, petrol, food etc. You will be included in all the GDS activities from attending local fundraisers to creating media if time permits. Additionally, we will film parts of your journey and make a short memorial video for you to keep as long as there are no emergencies that have priority.  We will do our best to ensure that our volunteers experience the full spectrum of GDS life!
